The State of Emergency declared by the Government of Québec on March 14, 2020, requires the strict implementation of certain measures in order to protect the public. In the context of the declaration of the Emergency, Dr. Marie Rochette, Director of Public Health of the NRBHSS, has the authority to establish various measures for that purpose.
The ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux specifies that Dr. Marie Rochette “must be able to assume, free of any political obstacle whatsoever, the powers defined in chapter XI of the Public Health Act. She may request information she deems necessary for the purposes of an epidemiological investigation and order the application of specific measures in Nunavik to guard against or rectify a situation constituting a threat to the public’s health.”
Cases are now confirmed in the region of Nunavik. The Public Health professionals are now doing investigation and following proper guidelines in place. The priority is to limit the spread of the virus in the communities and protect vulnerable people. The region is proactive and all necessary measures are being deployed for the communities affected and also the whole region.
